January 2026 saw the official launch of our newly refurbished Swindon Truckstop.
Colleagues and professionals from across the industry, including representatives from the Department for Transport and leadership teams from the MB Energy Group, joined us to celebrate our achievement.
Rt Hon Heidi Alexander, Secretary of State for Transport, attended in her capacity as MP for Swindon South and spent time talking to staff and directors, and touring the site, before officially launching our refurbished Truckstop by raising the new security barrier (see image above).
We acquired Swindon Truckstop in 2022 and knew it would need a lot of work to bring it in line with the high standards we aim for across all our truckstops.
Three years later – and thanks to the incredible effort of everyone involved – the result is a first-class facility that drivers can look forward to using when they’re in the area. We’re proud of this achievement, and grateful to everyone who made it happen.
The site now boasts a brand new security system, additional parking bays, safer, floodlit parking, and a fully renovated cafe and welfare facilities. We’re also working with the Transported Asset Protection Association (TAPA) to further develop parking security to gain a Level 3 accreditation – providing a much-needed facility for consignors and operators transporting high value goods.
In the new open-plan cafe and shop, staff serve hearty, freshly cooked meals, while the refreshment and welfare facilities have been completely modernised. Outside, we added a new patio with seating so drivers can relax in the fresh air (when the weather improves)!
The site now offers enhanced security, modern welfare facilities and 24/7 access to Renewable Diesel (HVO), and AdBlue. It is exactly the kind of high-quality infrastructure needed to support drivers today, attract new talent to the sector, and keep the UK’s supply chains moving. This development also reflects MB Energy’s wider ambition for all our sites to become multi-purpose fuelling hubs, providing tailored solutions for our customers’ decarbonisation journeys, and meeting the evolving needs of road transport now and in the future.
The refuelling area has also been upgraded, with new card readers and more diesel dispensers. Diesel, Renewable Diesel (HVO) and AdBlue are all available 24/7. HVO, which is now available at all of our truckstops, is expected to play a significant role as customers consider practical solutions to decarbonising road transport.
As a business, we believe this truckstop raises the bar for HGV driver comfort and sets a standard for others to follow. Both are key to our vision – and to the government’s long-term plan for the sector.
Chief Executive Officer of MB Energy, Jonathan Perkins said; “The opening of the refurbished Swindon Onroute Truckstop is a proud moment for everyone involved. From the outset, this project has been about putting drivers first – improving safety, comfort and wellbeing, while providing the facilities the modern logistics sector depends on.
With significant investment and support from the Department for Transport, the site now offers enhanced security, modern welfare facilities and 24/7 access to diesel, HVO and AdBlue. It is exactly the kind of high-quality infrastructure needed to support drivers today, attract new talent to the sector, and keep the UK’s supply chains moving.
This development also reflects MB Energy’s wider ambition for all our sites to become multi-purpose fuelling hubs, providing tailored solutions for our customers’ decarbonisation journeys, and meeting the evolving needs of road transport now and in the future”.
Onroute Truckstops is part of the MB Energy Group’s Commercial Road Transport division which offers fuel card services and operates more than 300 conventional fuels stations within the tankpool24 network, including over 2,000 fuelling locations across Europe.
