Supporting Britain's Truck Drivers Throughout COVID-19

While many organisations were forced to stop trading during lockdown, Onroute Truckstops remained open for business throughout.

Truckstops are essential fuelling stations for drivers distributing much needed goods around the country. Our staff have been working hard to ensure that drivers visiting their sites had safe access to good home-cooked food and other essential facilities during their stay.

keeping staff and drivers safe

Strict health and safety measures have been put in place to help keep staff and drivers as safe as possible. These include  installing one-way systems and floor markings to encourage social distancing as well as creating separate entrance and exit ways where possible. Full size protection screens have also been installed at all checkouts as well as hand sanitizer units at key locations throughout the sites. In addition to this, rigorous and regular cleansing and disinfecting of all key touch points is being carried out to help minimise cross-contamination.

Home comforts in a crisis

Having access to a hot meal after a long drive is very important and definitely helps keep drivers spirits up. Freshly cooked, home-made food is available to take away at both sites. Drivers can pop into the cafĂ© or browse the menu on their mobile phone, place their order online and pick up their food when they arrive or have it delivered to their cab. Payments are all done by card  which also helps reduce personal contact and ensure safety.

“We’ve had great feedback from drivers keen to show their appreciation,” said Derrick Hemingsley, retail stock operations manager at Junction 29, “they are playing a key role in keeping the country running by distributing essential provisions around the country. We are pleased to be able to support them by offering a warm welcome and making sure they have a safe place to stay and access to a good hot meal and clean, safe-to-use facilities.”
